The internet still has wonderful rabbit holes to fall into. Growing up in an area of the UK once renowned for shipbuilding, the title of this essay caught my eye, then the quality of the narrative drew me into the very end. A physical constraint of UK shipyards, increase to globalisation outstripping capacity, social organisation which defended expertise but limited innovation, all of which helped end one of the great industry’s of it day. Pertinent lessons I feel, for us today.
