Telepresence is a form of blue collar remote and we have already seen many examples of front line on premise work being offshored to locations where the labour costs are lower. We’ve seen the
remote cashiers,
remote security guards, and now remote store workers
monitoring and triaging autonomous robots. A separate yet convergent theme is ‘human-in-the-loop’ - a version of this is what it might end up looking like, which is not quite the ‘human with executive authority’ vibe which we’ve allowed ourselves to think would be the default.
