AI Optimists vs AI Pessimists vs AI Skeptics - I’ve been swinging between these positions throughout the entire GenAI era. Recently, I have migrated away from AI Pessimism and toward AI Skepticism, mainly through persuasive arguments from the economics perspective from Ed Zitron (must read here) and from neural science / tech historical perspectives from Gary Marcus / Ben Evans. This post further underlines the case - the reason why AI does both the incredible and incredibly stupid is because it is, unlike humans, unbounded by time and materiality. A bit philosophical but welcome read for those of us who have anxiety about humanity’s places in the order of things.
