Fascinating study on the impact of remote working on meeting participation rate - turns out racial identity does not impact MPR, but gender certainly did. We don’t know why - and OP refreshingly offers no theories - but it is something to ponder if we care about maximising and equalising engagement. We also need to consider whether MPR is a good thing or not, though for issues like promotion etc, speaking more definitely does move you up.
