With the far right AfD party continuing to
gain ground in Germany, the rise of the populist right - which many may have thought had peaked in 2016 with Trump / Brexit - seems to be coming around again. The relationship between economics and politics is pretty straightforward really - inflation, cost of living crisis and hostile de-globalisation is going to lead to political manifestations which might be best described as ‘suboptimal’.
